Broncos Dominate Santa Clara in Three

DAVIS, Calif. - Boise State was dominating in the opener of the UC Davis Classic as the Broncos hit a season-high 37.8 percent on its way to a sweep 25-18, 25-15, 25-17 over Santa Clara Friday morning.

Sierra Nobley led the Broncos in the win with a team-high 12 kills while hitting a season-high 37 percent.

Tied at 11 in the opening set, Boise State began to slowly pull away from Santa Clara with a 4-0 run. The Broncos then maintained the advantage the rest of the way stretching it out to seven late before taking the period 25-18.

Set two was total domination by Boise State who ran out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. The Broncos put it into cruise control leading by as many as 10 three times late in the set before taking it 25-15.

Santa Clara took the early lead in the third set before Boise State kicked it into gear and took control. Down 3-1 early, the blue and orange surged with a 6-1 run to go up 7-4. They never trailed again as the Broncos pulled away from Santa Clara for a decisive eight-point win 25-17 to clinch the sweep.

Boise State hit a season-high 37.8 percent in the match and hit a solid .333 or better in all three sets, including 40 percent in the final. All six Broncos who recorded kills in the contest hit above 30 percent, led by Celine Christensen who hit 57.1 percent (5-1-7).

The win improved the Broncos to 5-2 overall. Boise State will be back in action later today as they face tournament host UC Davis at 8:30 p.m. (Mountain).

"I was really happy with how we served today and our defense was solid. I though we played well across the board and had contributions from alot of different Broncos today."

Garus on the offensive attack against Santa Clara . . .

"Our offense was on most of the day and as a team we hit the ball well at around 37 percent, that's a pretty solid percentage. We have struggled a little in the first two weeks in hitting the ball, it was good to see numerous players find their touch in this match."


Player of the Match: Senior setter Jaymee-Lee Bulda is the Boise State Player of the Match against Santa Clara. Bulda was on with her setting versus Santa Clara recording 28 of the team's 33 assists, while making only one setting error. In addition, the team hit a season-best 37.8 percent (40-6-90). The senior also added three kills, one service ace, six digs and three blocks.

Leader of the Pack: Sierra Nobley continues to lead the Broncos offensively recording a team-high 12 kills while hitting a season-best 37 percent. Nobley has now recorded 61 consecutive matches with double-figure kills dating back to the ninth match of her sophomore season. The 12 kills also extends her school career kills record to 1,590, 33 short of tying the Mountain West Conference record of 1,623.

Solid Hitting: Sophomore Janell Walley finished the match with eight kills will hitting 40 percent (8-2-15) to go with one service ace and five digs.

Christensen Hits Over 50 Percent: The redshirt-sophomore had a solid outing against Santa Clara hitting 57.1 percent scoring on five of seven attempts, with only one error, she also added two blocks.

First Action as a Bronco: Transfer Tiaja McKnight saw her first action in the blue and orange this morning versus Santa Clara coming in during the third set.
