Broncos open four match homestand with straight-sets victory over Eagles.

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State volleyball opened its four match homestand with a convincing straight-set victory 25-9, 25-16, 25-23, over Eastern Washington Wednesday night in Boise. The Broncos hit .326 percent against the Eagles who were held to .099 percent on the night. Alyssa Gammel led Boise State with 12 kills while hitting a career-high .526 percent, followed by Liz Harden who hit a season-high .438 percent with 10 kills. The victory is the second consecutive straight-set victory for the Broncos who improved to 3-4 on the year.

"I was really happy with the way our team came out fast against Eastern," said coach Shawn Garus. "We found a rhythm early and played hard throughout the match. Alyssa (Gammel) and Liz (Harden) were great leaders on the floor and played exceptionally well. Everyone feed off them, especially during the third set rally. I am really pleased with our effort tonight."

The Broncos opened with a dominating set one leading from the start and never looked back as they cruised to a 25-9 win.

The second set was close initially before Boise State slowly pulled away for the 25-16 victory. With the teams tied at five all, the Broncos rolled off a 5-1 run to take command. The blue and orange stretched the advantage to nine points twice, the last came at the end, 25-16, as Boise State took a 2-0 match lead into the break. Gammel recorded six of her kills during the set to lead the Broncos.

The final set was extremely tight with the Eagles pushing the Broncos to the wire. Eastern Washington started quick taking the early lead and stretching it to six at 16-10. That is when Boise State came alive as it stormed back. Down 20-17, the Broncos scored six straight to tie the match at 20, then took a 23-20 lead. The Eagles attempted to rally pulling within one at 24-23, but fell short when Harden put the set and match away for Boise State with her fifth kill of the frame for a 25-23 Bronco victory.

Gammel led Boise State with 12 kills, two assists, one ace, five digs and one block, followed by Harden with 10 kills. Fiona Jones added seven kills, eight digs and three blocks, while Leah Stevens recorded six kills and three blocks. Sarah Baugh led the team in assists with 18 followed by Casey Rose with 17. Kersti Whitney led the team defensively with 14 digs.

The team hit .326 for the match with 43 kills, 41 assists, seven aces, 47 digs and 7.5 blocks. Eastern Washington hit .099 percent and recorded 24 kills, 23 assists, two aces, 31 digs and four blocks.

Boise State has now won two straight matches and six consecutive sets heading into the weekend. The Broncos will be back in action at home this Friday and Saturday  when they host the Boise State Invitational featuring Southern Utah, San Jose State and UC Irvine.
