Mark Tichenor Named a 2008 USTA/ITA Community Outreach Award Winner

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Boise State University women's tennis coach Mark Tichenor has been named the Intermountain sectional winner of the USTA/ITA Community Outreach Award.


The USTA/ITA Community Outreach Award honors an ITA coach for significant contributions in developing community-based tennis programs through community centers, schools, parks, community tennis associations, inner city, suburban or rural programs.


Tichenor enters his 10th season at the helm of the Boise State women’s program and has led his team to the NCAA tournament the past two seasons. He also holds a 157-60 record as head coach of Boise State.


Also awarded was the USTA/ITA Campus Recreation Award which honors an ITA coach who has done an outstanding job implementing recreational tennis programs on campus in an effort to grow tennis participation.


This year's national winners, Lisa Hart of Washington State University (Community Outreach) and Bill Macom of Florida Institute of Technology (Campus Recreation),  were selected from a group of USTA Sectional winners determined this fall (and listed below). This awards program, which began in 2003, was open to over 2,000 ITA head and assistant coaches at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community College levels.
