Thongdack, Kokoulina Earn ITA Central Regional Doubles Title

TULSA, Okla. Boise State’s women’s tennis team competed in the fifth and final day of the ITA Women’s Central Regional Championships hosted by the University of Tulsa. After numerous rounds of singles and doubles play over the last four days, the Broncos’ Polina Kokoulina and Pichittra Thongdack came out on top, earning the championship doubles title on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos finished with a 9-8 singles record and a 7-0 doubles record over the five day tournament.

The No. 7 seeded BSU duo upset Arkansas’ Ela Kalunder and Aurelija Misevcuite, the No. 3 seed, in an 8-5 decision. With the win, Kokoulina and Thongack punched their ticket to the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University in November.

Misevcuite earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Oklahoma’s Anna Maria Constantinescu to win the open singles title, also earning a spot at the ITA championships.

The BSU women’s tennis team will return home for the Boise State Invitational on November 2-4 at the Boas Tennis Center.
