Kokoulina Leads Broncos to Day Four of ITA Central Regional

TULSA, Okla. The Boise State women’s tennis team competed in their third day of the ITA Central Regional hosted by the University of Tulsa. The Broncos went 5-4 in Friday’s competition, including a 4-4 singles record.

In the open singles round of 32 Pichittra Thongdach earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over BYU’s Liza Ezhova. The win put her into the round of 16 where she dropped 6-2, 6-1 to Mallory Voleker of Denver.

BSU’s Bianca Jochimsen also participated in the open singles round of 32, dropping her first match to Mayori Franco of Arkansas, 7-6, 6-4.

In the consolation singles round of 32, Polina Kokoulina led the way with two wins on the day. First she topped Colorado State’s Lauren Strausberger, 6-2, 6-1. In her round of 16, Kokoulina fought through a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 11-9 match with Anna Egorova of WSU to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Klaudia Wlodarczyk earned a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Air Force’s Lauren Wilson before falling to Oklahoma’s Maria Kalashinikova, 6-1, 6-1.

Jana Mackova went 0-1 in the consolation bracket, dropping a 7-5, 6-4 match to BYU’s Ele Carney.

In doubles action, BSU’s Thongdach and Kokoulina joined together to top Tulsa’s Thalia Barriga and Marti Marcinkowska, 8-3. With the win the duo advances to Saturday’s doubles quarterfinals.
