Thongdach, Megale Advance to Semifinals of Wilson/ITA Mountain Regional Championships

LAS VEGAS - Boise State's women's tennis team had another solid day of competition at the Wilson/ITA Division I Women's Mountain Regional Championships. Pichittra Thongdach as well as three Bronco doubles teams took to the court on day three of the tournament at the Amanda and Stacy Darling Memorial Tennis Center.

Senior Pichittra Thongdach dominated her singles quarterfinal round match on Friday afternoon, defeating Anastasia Putilina (Utah) 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the semifinal round. Thongdach, who holds the No. 47 spot in the national ITA singles rankings, will face Melisa Esposito (Colorado) in the 1 p.m. (Mountain Time) first semifinal singles match.

Thongdach also teamed with Lauren Megale in doubles play, earning a 2-0 record on the day to advance to the doubles semifinals set for 10 a.m. (MT) on Saturday. Thongdach and Megale, who are ranked No. 37 in the nation, earned an 8-4 win over Anna Maskaljun and Alisa Razina of UNLV in the Round of 16. They went on to defeat Utah's Andrea Maughan and Erin Monson, 8-3, in the quarterfinal round.

Bronco duo Rocio Frej and Marlena Pietzuch were able to produce a 1-1 doubles record on the day, defeating UNLV's Adrienn Hidvegi and Nives Pavlovic 8-3 in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinal match, UNLV's Jana Albers and Kristina Nedeltcheva got the best of the Bronco pair, winning 8-6 to knock out the Broncos.

The doubles team of Stephanie Jasper and Bianca Jochimsen were halted by Esposito and Camila Belassi (Colorado), falling 8-1 to the Buff duo in the Round of 16.

Thongdach will continue her singles play as well as joining Megale in doubles action on Saturday. The five-day tournament will conclude on Sunday with the singles and doubles finals.
