Bronco Women Open Play at the Jack Taylor Classic

            BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women’s tennis team opened its’ only home tournament of the fall on Friday (Oct. 2), where the Broncos compiled a near perfect record (3-0 doubles, 4-1 singles) on day-one of the Jack Taylor Classic at the Appleton Tennis Center.

            The Broncos opened the day with three wins in doubles action, which began with Bianca Jochimsen and Stephanie Jasper earning an 8-3 win against Jackie Owens and Jessica Gomez of Washington State. The duo made a quick turnaround, winning their next doubles match of the day, 8-3, against Luda Vasilieva and Ekaterina Kamendova (WSU). Pichittra Thongdach and Marlena Pietzuch captured Boise State’s final doubles win of the day, beating Andjela Kankaras and Liz Fournier (WSU) 8-0.

            In singles action, the Broncos enjoyed wins in four-of-five matches. Stephanie Jasper earned the first singles win of the day for Boise State, defeating Kamendova in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Thongdach, who entered the weekend ranked No. 47 nationally, followed shortly after with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win against Fournier.

Later in the afternoon, Rocio Frej earned a quick 6-1, 6-1 win against Andrea De La Torre of Montana State. Pietzuch finished the day off for Boise State, beating Kankaras in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the final match of the day. Boise State’s only loss of the afternoon came early on in singles competition, as Vasilieva beat Jochimsen, 6-4, 6-1.

The Jack Taylor Classic continues on Saturday, with doubles matches starting at 10 a.m. Matches will continued to be played outdoors at the Appleton Center, weather permitting. In the instance of rain, all matches will be move to the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex. The tournament will conclude Sunday afternoon.
