VIDEO: Broncos Strong on First Day of Jack Taylor

BOISE, Idaho- Boise State women's tennis continued to impress in the early part of the fall season on the first day of the Jack Taylor Classic, Friday, in Boise, Idaho. The Broncos advanced four women to quarterfinal matches in singles play and went a perfect 4-0 in doubles action under sunny skies at Appleton Tennis Center in the team's home opener. Joining Boise State are Idaho State, New Mexico, Utah State and Weber State.

In the Blue Flight Singles, three Broncos are still alive in the main draw. Senior Sonia Klamczynska and juniors Manuela and Marlena Pietzuch all picked up victories in the round of 16 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals. Klamczynska and Manuela were straight-set winners, whil Marlena battle back from a 6-1 loss in the first set take her match in three. Klamczynska and Manuela could meet in the semifinals, also scheduled for Saturday.
 
Sophomore Sandy Vo picked up a straight-set win in the opening round, but fell 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16 to Mckenzie Davis of Utah State. Classmate Morgan Basil also dropped her match in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-4 to Ashley Tanner of Weber State. Basil rebounded in consolation play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
 
Freshman Kaitlyn Brown, a Boise native, won her opening match in the Orange Flight before falling in the quarterfinals to end her weekend in the singles draw. Brown is still alive in doubles with Klamczynska.
 
The Broncos started strong with four doubles wins in the morning, including two by Vo and Basil to advance to the semifinals. Marlena and Manuela Pietzuch teamed up for an 8-1 victory in the quarterfinals. The Broncos and New Mexico each make up half of the semifinals in the Blue Flight Doubles. Both semifinal matches will take place Saturday, starting at noon, at the Appleton Tennis Center.

Klamczynska and Brown won their first doubles match in the Orange Flight with a 9-8 tiebreak victory. The round-robin Orange Flight Doubles will resume Saturday, at 12:30, at Appleton Tennis Center.
 
Some matches Friday were played at Julia Davis Park. The rest of the matches in the Jack Taylor Classic will be played at the Appleton Tennis Center. See the attached draw sheet for match times.
