Women's Tennis to Host Jack Taylor Classic

            BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women’s tennis team is preparing for its’ only home tournament of the 2009 fall schedule, as the Broncos will host the Jack Taylor Classic this Friday-Sunday (Oct. 2-4) at the Appleton Tennis Center.

            The Jack Taylor Tournament field will be comprised of student-athletes from Washington State University, Montana State University and the University of Portland. The tournament will be run as a round robin, rather than in a traditional bracketed draw format.

            Boise State Head Coach Mark Tichenor is expecting five Broncos to compete in the tournament. Boise State is led by Pichittra Thongdach, who is 2-1 in singles this fall and ranks No. 47 nationally according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings. She will be joined by Bianca Jochimsen (4-1 record), Rocio Frej (1-0), Stephanie Jasper (3-3) and Marlena Pietzuch (5-2).

            Matches are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. each day, and will conclude at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s matches are only expected to last until around 2 p.m.


Megale to Compete in Pre-Qualifying Round of the ITA All-American Tournament


            Junior Lauren Megale is set to compete this weekend in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Tournament in Los Angeles, Calif., which is scheduled to run from Oct. 3 (Saturday) until Oct. 11. Megale is one of 64 players competing in the pre-qualifying tournament.

As the tournament is set up, a player must win three rounds in pre-qualifying action to advance to the qualifying tournament. In order to advance to the main draw competition, a player must win another three rounds in qualifying. The main draw will be comprised of 24 at-large selections and eight players from the qualifying round.

Megale has only competed in one other tournament so far this fall, the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, where she finished 0-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles while teamed up with Thongdach.

            Megale and Thongdach have been invited to compete in the qualifying round of the tournament in doubles. Thongdach has also been invited to compete in singles, where she earned an at-large bid in the main draw starting on Oct. 8 (Thursday).
