Thongdach Advances in Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

MALIBU, Calif. Junior Pichittra Thongdach breezed her way into the qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships over the weekend. Thongdach was the only competitor from Boise State that was given a bid into the tournament and won three straight-set victories to advance out of the pre-qualifying rounds.

Thongdach was one of 64 players in the pre-qualifying rounds vying for the eight openings in the qualifying rounds. Thongdach began her run toward the top eight with a first round match against Paulina Bigos (Alabama). Thongdach took the match 6-2, 6-4 to advance into the round of 32. In that match, she faced Karolina Filipiak (Baylor) and again came away victorious with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Thongdach faced Sarah Fansler (USC) in the round of 16 with a bid to the qualifying rounds on the line. She continued to overpower her opponent and earned the bid with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Again, 64 players will compete for eight spots that will advance into the main draw of the championships. Thongdach will face Michaela Kissel (Miami) in her first round match on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
