Stacey Housley led the way for the Broncos

Provo, Utah- The Boise State women’s tennis team began their 2006-07 season Thursday at the Brigham Young Invitational.  The Broncos sent six members of the team to compete in both the singles and doubles competition. 


Senior Stacey Housley led the way for the Broncos in both singles and doubles.  After receiving a bye to the round of 16, the second seeded Housley defeated Ashley Spicer of Washington State Univeristy 6-0 and 6-0.  In the quarterfinals she will faced Rana El Derwy of BYU at 9 a.m. Friday.  In doubles Housley combined with teammate Carolyn Berry to reach the quarterfinals after defeating Erin Manning and Britney Watts of Utah State 8-2.


The doubles team of Tiffany Coll and Laura Baum are also reached the quarterfinals after receiving a bye for being the second seeded team in the tournament.


The upset of the day was turned in by Tatiana Ganzha and Polina Kokoulina who defeated the number three seed in the draw, Amy Toth and Anastesia Opata of WSU, 8-2 to advance to the semifinals. 


Each member of the Broncos contributed with a victory in singles or doubles play. 


The tournament continues Friday at 9 a.m. and concludes Saturday.
