Women's Tennis Moves to No. 38 in Final ITA Rankings

BOISE, Idaho - The final ITA national rankings for the 2010 season were released on Monday (June 7), which featured the Boise State women's tennis team making a nine spot jump to finish its historic spring ranked No. 38 in the country.

The Broncos, who finished the spring with a 23-6 record en route to winning the first Western Athletic Conference championship in program history, moved to No. 38 from No. 47 in the final poll. Boise State's move came on the heels of the Broncos' 4-1 victory over No. 21 Iowa in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The victory marked just the second NCAA tournament win in program history.

It wasn't all about team recognition on Monday, however, as the Broncos were also represented in both the singles and doubles national rankings. Senior Pichittra Thongdach finished the season ranked No. 47 nationally after playing to a 31-16 overall record. Thongdach also teammed up with Lauren Megale to play to a No. 30 ranking in doubles after compiling a 30-12 overall record on the season.

Boise State's 2010-11 schedule has not been released yet, but the Broncos did learn that they will be playing in the ITA Kick-Off once again. The women were selected as one of 60 teams to compete in the kick-off event. Boise State will head to Northwestern University to face off with Nebraska, Northwestern and Harvard. The winner of the four team pool will earn an invitation to compete in the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
