Thongdach Drops Second Round Match to fall from Singles Tournament
ATHENS, Ga. - Thursday (May 27) marked the end of the 2010 season for the Boise State women's tennis team as the Broncos dropped a pair of matches to fall from the NCAA Individual Championships in Athens, Ga. Senior Pichittra Thongdach suffered a second-round loss in singles in the morning before falling in the opening round of doubles competition with teammate Lauren Megale Thursday afternoon.

Thongdach saw her run in the singles tournament end as she fell in the round of 32 to Ellah Nze of Duke, 6-4, 7-6. Just one day after pulling an incredible upset win over No. 10 ranked Denise Dy of the University of Washington, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, Thongdach's collegiate singles career came to an end with the loss to No. 47 ranked Nze.

Thongdach, who entered the weekend ranked No. 49 nationally, battled Nze the whole way but was unable to finish off either set. In the second set she came back from a 6-5 deficit to tie Nze at 6-6, but was unable to win the tie breaker to extend the match. With the loss, Thongdach falls to 31-16 overall in singles this season with a 13-6 record in tournament action. She ends her singles career at Boise State with a 78-33 all-time record.

Megale and Thongdach looked to turn around the Broncos' fortune in the afternoon session of doubles play but were unable to get past No. 17 ranked Alexa Gaurachi and Courtney McLane of Alabama. Thongdach and Megale, who were ranked No. 45 nationally, battled back from a first set loss to force a third and decisive set against Gaurachi and McLane. The Alabama duo proved to be too much, however, as they finally put away Thongdach and Megale, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

Thongdach and Megale finish the season with a 30-12 overall doubles record, which includes a 9-5 record in tournament action. The Boise State pair did enjoy their share of success against the nation's best as they recorded three wins over ranked opponents.
