Draws Announced for Thongdach and Megale at NCAA Individual Championships

BOISE, Idaho - The draws for the 2010 NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships were released, Tuesday (May 25), which revealed a tough journey ahead for Boise State's Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale. The individual championships, which kick-off on Wednesday (May 28) and run through May 31 (Monday), are being play at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.

Thongdach, a senior from Petchaburi, Thailand, will open her weekend in the 64-player singles tournament against No. 10 ranked Denise Dy of the University of Washington. Thongdach, who enters the tournament ranked No. 49 nationally, will face Dy at noon (EST) on Wednesday (May 26). The winner of Thongdach and Dy will advance in the single elimination tournament to face the winner of No. 47 Ellah Nze of Duke and No. 59 Elisabeth Fournier of Washington State on Thursday (May 27).

Thongdach earned an at-large selection to the singles tournament after an outstanding season playing at No. 1 singles for the Broncos. She finished the spring with a 30-15 overall record and an 18-10 record in dual matches. Along with helping Boise State win its first ever Western Athletic Conference women's tennis title, Thongdach also received top league honors by being named WAC Player of the Year.

Thongdach will also pair up with teammate Lauren Megale, a junior from Boise, Idaho, to compete in the 32-team doubles tournament this weekend. The No. 45 ranked Bronco duo will open the single elimination doubles tournament on Thursday (May 27) against No. 17 Alexa Guarachi and Courtney McLane of Alabama. The time of the match is yet to be determined. Thongdach and Megale will be playing for the right to advance and face the winner of No. 23 Irina Falconi and Sasha Krupina (Georgia Tech), and No. 2 Hilary Barte and Lindsey Burdette (Stanford) on Friday (May 28).

Megale and Thongdach also enjoyed a dominating season playing at No. 1 doubles for Boise State, as they finished the spring with a 21-7 dual record. The pair is 30-11 dating back to last fall with three wins over nationally ranked opponents. Thongdach and Megale received an automatic bid into the individual championships after earning first-team All-WAC honors.
