BOISE, Idaho - The 35th-ranked Boise State women’s tennis team will head to Athens, Ga., to participate in the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Tournament First and Second Rounds on May 9-10 at the University of Georgia. The Broncos earned the No. 3 seed in their first and second round bracket while Georgia earned the top seed after finishing the regular season ranked second in the Campbell’s/ITA National Team Rankings. Boise State will face 24th-ranked Alabama in their first round match slated for 8:00 a.m. (MST) on Saturday, May 9 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

This marks the sixth appearance (third consecutive) by the Bronco women in the NCAA tournament and the fourth under head coach Mark Tichenor.  Each of the sixth times Boise State has qualified for the NCAA tournament, they have fallen to their first round opponent.

Boise State holds a 23-4 record on the season and has earned seven wins over nationally ranked teams. The Broncos have not faced any of the three additional first and second round qualifiers headed to Athens, Ga., this season.

On the other side of the first round bracket, second-ranked Georgia will host unranked South Carolina State University in an 11:00 a.m. (MST) match on Saturday, May 9, following immediately after the Boise State/Alabama match.

Georgia enters the weekend as the three-time defending Southeastern Conference champions and features a 23-2 record. The Bulldogs are making their 23rd consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and have been crowned the national champions during the 1994 and 2000 seasons. Alabama holds a 15-8 record on the season and is headed to the tournament for the ninth time in program history and first time since 2006. Alabama’s best tournament finish was in 2003 when they advanced to the second round. South Carolina State holds a 14-4 record on the season and will be participating in their fifth consecutive NCAA tournament. The Lady Bulldogs were crowned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champions earlier this season.

The winners of the Boise State/Alabama and Georgia/South Carolina state matches will meet Sunday, May 10 at 12:00 p.m. (MST) in the second round.
