Women's Tennis Wins WAC Player and Coach of the Year Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference announced its 2010 women's tennis award winners, Thursday (April 29) night, which was highlighted by Boise State's Pichittra Thongdach winning Player of the Year and Mark Tichenor nabbing Coach of the Year honors.

Thongdach, a senior from Petchaburi, Thailand (Univ. of Thailand), posted a 28-13 overall record this season playing at No. 1 singles for the Broncos. She was 5-2 against WAC opponents and is 5-7 vs. nationally ranked opponents. Thongdach finished the regular season ranked No. 51 in the ITA singles rankings. She also teamed up with Lauren Megale to lead Boise State at No. 1 doubles, posting a 29-9 overall record on the season. The duo finished the regular season ranked No. 45 nationally. Thongdach spent the entire season ranked in the top-60 in both singles and doubles.

Tichenor garnered his first ever WAC Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Broncos to a 20-5 mark this season. Boise State was dominant in conference play, finishing with an 8-0 record against WAC opponents. With a perfect league record the Broncos captured their first ever WAC regular season championship.

As a team, Boise State also had three student-athletes selected to the all-conference singles and doubles teams. Thongdach and Megale both were named first-team All-WAC in singles, while the duo also received first-team All-Conference honors in doubles. Senior Bianca Jochimsen rounded out the group of all-conference nominations with a second-team All-WAC selection in singles.

The 2010 WAC Championships kick off today (April 30) in Fresno, Calif. With the No. 1 overall seed, Boise State has a first round bye and will not play until Saturday morning. The Broncos open up tournament action against the winner of No. 4 Hawai'i and No. 5 Idaho at 11 a.m. (CST).
