Megale Selected as WAC Player of the Week

BOISE, Idaho - The Western Athletic Conference announced, Tuesday (April 26), that Boise State's Lauren Megale has been selected as the Verizon WAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance during April 18-24.

Megale, a senior from Boise, Idaho, went 1-0 in both singles and doubles to help lift the Broncos to a 7-0 win over Hawai'i in their regular season finale on Sunday (April 24). At No. 1 singles, she picked up her fourth-straight victory, defeating Katarina Poljakova in straight sets to improve to 5-0 against WAC opponents. At No. 1 doubles, she and partner Marlena Pietzuch defeated Barbara Pinterova and Poljakova, 8-2.

This marks the fifth WAC Player of the Week honor for Megale, who won it twice as a sophomore, once as a junior and once already this spring. She received the honor this season for Jan. 17-23. This past fall she was also named WAC Player of the Month for October.

Boise State is currently in preparation to host the 2011 WAC Tennis Championships, Thursday-Sunday (April 28 - May 1). The No. 1 seed Broncos will open tournament action on Thursday against the winner of Utah State and San Jose State at 2:30 p.m.
