April 20, 2016

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State women's tennis freshman Hanna Kantenwein earned her first Mountain West Player of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday. Kantenwein is the third Bronco to earn the weekly honor since Boise State joined the Mountain West and the first since 2013.

Kantenwein helped Boise State to a pair of road victories last week at Wyoming and Colorado State. The freshman notched wins at the No. 1 singles position in each match.

At Wyoming, Friday, Kantenwein rallied for a three-set victory against Magdalena Stencel to clinch the match for Boise State as the Broncos came back from down 3-0 to win 4-3. Kantenwein fought off four match points in the third set to win 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3).

Sunday, at Colorado State, Boise State claimed a 4-2 win. Kantenwein wrapped up a 6-4, 6-2 win at the top spot and was the first singles match off the court.

Kantenwein, a native of Germany, is 10-6 on the year, including an 8-3 mark at the No. 1 singles position.

Sandy Vo (2013) is the last Boise State women's tennis student-athlete to be named MW Player of the Week. Marlena Pietzuch earned one weekly award in 2012.

Boise State is back in action Saturday, hosting Utah State in the regular-season finale. The match will start at 2 p.m. MT, at the Appleton Tennis Center.
