Palmer Named Boise State Athlete of the Week

April 16, 2018

BOISE, Idaho – Freshman Wilhelmina Palmer of women’s tennis was named Boise State Athlete of the Week after clinching the match for the Broncos over New Mexico with a win at No. 1 singles on Friday evening at Appleton Tennis Complex.

After the Broncos clinched the doubles point, singles action was back-and-forth. With the match deadlocked at 2-2, a win at No. 5 singles by Vanessa Timm shifted the momentum in the direction of the Broncos. With just courts six and one still competing, freshman Palmer at No. 1 singles was in a battle with Diana Wong of New Mexico. After winning the first set 6-3, she dropped the second-set in a tie-break, 6-7 (4-7), setting up a winner-take-all third set, which she came-from-behind to win, 6-3, clinching the match for the Broncos.

The win over perennial conference favorite New Mexico is the first for the Broncos since the 2014 season. The Broncos are looking to stay undefeated in conference play and clinch the Mountain West Mountain Division on Saturday, when they host Utah State for Senior Day at 12 p.m. MT at Appleton Tennis Complex.
