Bronco Women Jump Six Spots to No. 32 in Campbell's/ITA National Rankings

BOISE, Idaho -- The No. 32-ranked Boise State women’s tennis team will take a week off from competition after hosting a handful of Western Athletic Conference teams in Boise this past weekend. The Broncos picked up three straight 7-0 wins over the weekend, defeating Louisiana Tech, Hawaii and Idaho in the process. They extended their record to an impressive 20-2 figure as well as improving to a 13 match winning streak. With their trio of victories, the Broncos moved up six spots in the Campbell’s/ITA College team rankings to No. 32 this week.

Individually, Pichittra Thongdach holds a singles ranking of No. 72 which she earned in the March 31 Campbell’s/ITA rankings. She is joined by sophomore Lauren Megale as the No. 73-ranked doubles team in the country while also joined by freshman Vivien Silfany for the No. 80-ranked doubles team.

With their week off from competition the Broncos will prepare to take on two final WAC opponents in their regular season schedule. They will head to Las Cruces, N.M., for April 18 matches against unranked New Mexico State and No. 15-ranked Fresno State. Those matches will prep the team for the WAC Championships held one week later in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Although no NMSU players hold national rankings, Fresno State has three ranked singles players as well as the top-ranked doubles team in the country. The Bulldogs will be a tough opponent for the Broncos with Melanie Gloria holding the No. 14 spot in the singles rankings, Anastasia Petukhova sitting at No. 23 and Renata Kucerkova at No. 77. Gloria is joined by Tinesta Rowe to hold the No. 1 rank in the nation in doubles play.

The Broncos hold a 20-2 record overall as well as an unblemished 6-0 WAC record. They finished their home season with a 9-0 record while also boasting a 9-1 region record. In away matches they have finished an impressive 8-2 so far as well as 3-0 in neutral matches.
