Boise State Faces Final Road Trip This Week

BOISE, Idaho - The No. 44 ranked Boise State women's tennis team will embark on its final regular season road test of the spring this week as the Broncos head to Ruston, La. to face three Western Athletic Conference opponents on Thursday and Friday (April 8-9).

On Thursday Boise State opens up the three dual road trip with an 11 a.m. (CST) match against Hawai'i. The Broncos will then face a Friday double-header, which begins with San Jose State at 9 a.m. The women will conclude their week, Friday afternoon, with a 1 p.m. dual against host Louisiana Tech.

Last time out...

Boise State heads to Ruston looking to stake a claim at the top of the WAC regular season standings. The Broncos are currently second in the conference behind Fresno State after going 2-0 last weekend to open their 2010 WAC schedule. Boise State beat New Mexico State, 4-0, and No. 65 Nevada, 7-0, last Saturday (April 3) in Reno, Nev.

The Broncos used dominating doubles play to give themselves an early advantage in both duals, which has been a common theme for the women all season long. Including Saturday's double-header Boise State has now won the doubles point in 14-of-19 duals.

With their weekend sweep the Broncos are now 14-5 overall this season with a 2-0 record against WAC opponents. Boise State is also 9-1 against ITA Mountain Region teams.

National rankings...

The Broncos moved up one spot in this week's ITA National Team Rankings following a 2-0 finish last Saturday. Boise State is currently ranked No. 44 by the ITA. The Broncos have continued to rise over the past five weeks, which started on March 2 when Boise State fell to No. 57.

Finishing strong on the road...

Boise State will conclude its regular season road schedule this weekend with three WAC duals in Ruston, La. The Broncos have been steady away from home so far this season, playing to a 4-2 record in true road duals and a 3-3 record on neutral courts. This week, two of Boise State's three duals will be neutral.

The Broncos will also look to continue their dominance against unranked opponents, as they enter this week with an 11-0 record against teams not in the ITA top-75.

Looking at the competition...

Boise State will face a trio of opponents this week that have struggled to find consistent success all season long. Of the three teams, San Jose State is the only one with a .500 record (9-9) so far this spring. The Spartans are 0-3 against WAC opponents, however, and have lost three duals in a row.

Hawai'i has enjoyed the most success in WAC play with a 2-2 record to date. The Rainbow Wahine have scored wins over Utah State, 6-1, and Idaho, 4-2. Despite enjoying a bit of success in conference, Hawai'i has struggled to a 7-12 overall record this spring.

Louisiana Tech enters this week with the most struggles throughout the entire season as the Lady Techsters have played to just a 6-13 overall record. La Tech has lost six straight and is 0-2 so far against WAC opponents.
