Women's Tennis to Face UNLV and San Diego State in MW Action

  • The Schedule: Boise State (10-5, 1-0 MW) hits the road for Mountain West Conference action as the Broncos head to San Diego, Calif., to take on the UNLV Rebels (10-5, 0-0 MW) on Saturday at 1 p.m. (Mountain) followed by a match against their host the San Diego State Aztecs (11-4, 0-0 MW) at 11 a.m. (Mountain) on Sunday, both matches will be played at the Aztec Tennis Center.
  • The MW Standings: Boise State enters the week tied with Fresno State for second place in the league standings at 1-0. Neither UNLV nor San Diego State have played a match in conference heading into this week’s matches. The Wyoming Cowgirls lead the MW at 2-0.
  • The ITA Team Rankings: In the latest ITA National Rankings UNLV is comes in at No. 71 while San Diego State is No. 55, Boise State is not ranked.

  • The Record: The Broncos are 10-5 overall and are coming off a home sweep of Portland State (W 7-0) and Lewis-Clark State (W 7-0) last weekend at the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center.
  • The Broncos at Home: The Broncos have been dominating at home this season with an eight-match win streak to remain undefeated this season. The Broncos have dropped only one team point at home in 2013 and have out scored the opposition 55-1. Boise State went a combined 6-6 last year at both the Boas Indoor Tennis Center (6-3) and Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center (0-3).
  • The Broncos on the Road: The last time Boise State was on the road was three weeks ago when the Broncos went 1-2 at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., March 15-17 and now have an overall mark of 2-5 away from Boise this season. At the Classic the Broncos lost 4-0 to then No. 40 Ohio State, lost 4-2 to Marshall, then defeated Michigan State 4-3.
  • Boise State in Singles Matches: During the spring team (dual) season Boise State has predominantly used the same six individuals for singles. The Broncos are a combined 60-25 in singles matches this spring, all six regulars have winning records.
  • Top Broncos in Singles: Boise State is led by Marlena Pietzuch and Sandy Vo who have shared time playing at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions this spring. Pietzuch is 8-7 during duals and 17-10 on the year, while Vo is 8-4 in duals and 13-6 overall. Joining those two are Teal Vosburgh (9-4, 15-10), Morgan Basil who has team-bests marks of 12-2 this spring and 19-6 on the year, Megan LaLone (10-3, 18-7) and Sammie Watson (8-5, 15-10).
  • Boise State in Doubles Matches: Boise State has used nine different doubles teams to date during the dual season with two sets having played in almost every match. The Pietzuch sisters have played at No. 1 in every match with Morgan Basil and Sandy Vo on court two playing in all but two. The No. 3 doubles position has seen five different teams this spring. The Broncos have lost only four doubles points this season and are a combined 32-12 in doubles matches this spring.
  • Top Broncos in Doubles: The doubles teams are led by Manuela and Marlena Pietzuch playing on court one where the twins are 9-5 this spring. At No. 2 doubles Morgan Basil and Sandy Vo have compiled a team-best 12-1 mark this spring and a combined 31-11 record over the last two seasons. The duos seeing the most time on court three has been Megan LaLone and Teal Vosburgh who are 3-3, while LaLone and Sammie Watson are 2-3 to date.
  • Broncos in the ITA Rankings: Boise State is not ranked nationally as a team nor does it have anyone ranked in singles or doubles. Junior Sandy Vo is ranked sixth in the Mountain Region following a 6-2 singles record this past fall. Marlena Pietzuch entered the season ranked 16th in the region after compiling a team-best 9-3 mark in singles last semester.
  • The Coach: Beck Roghaar is in his third season at Boise State where he is 10-5 in 2013 and 35-25 overall, his career mark is the same.


  • The Record: The Rebels enter the week at 10-5 overall, 0-0 in MW play and 0-2 on the road, they have played 13 of their 15 matches to date in Las Vegas. Most recently (March 22-23) the Rebels split a pair of home matches losing 4-3 to Marshall before regrouping to defeat Southern Methodist 5-2.
  • Affiliation / ITA Region: UNLV is a member of the Mountain West Conference and are in the ITA Mountain Region with the Broncos.
  • ITA Rankings: The Rebels are ranked No. 71 nationally by ITA as a team, in singles they have Aleksandra Josifoska ranked No. 32 nationally and No. 1 in the Mountain Region. Lucia Batta follows at No. 90 nationally and No. 3 regionally, Nives Pavlovic is No. 8 in the region. UNLV does not have any doubles teams ranked nationally but two are regionally in Batta and Pavlovic at No. 3 followed by Josifoska and Iren Kotseva at No. 6.
  • Leading the Rebels in Singles: In singles their top player is No. 32 Aleksandra Josifoska who is 9-3 in duals on court one and 23-7 on the year. Lucia Batta, ranked No. 90, plays one court two where she is undefeated in duals at 14-0 and is 24-5 overall.
  • Leading the Rebels in Doubles: Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic are the No. 1 doubles team for UNLV, they are 8-3 this spring. Janine Erasmus and Aleksandra Josifoska are 9-2 on court two for the Rebels.
  • The Coach: Kevin Cory is in his 14th season at UNLV where he has a 230-104 overall record.


  • The Record: The Aztecs enter the week at 11-4 overall, 0-0 in MW play and 8-3 at home, they have won four straight. Most recently (March 28 and April 1) the Aztecs won at home defeating Sacramento State 4-3, then went on the road to knock off then No. 51 San Diego 4-3.
  • Affiliation / ITA Region: SDSU is a member of the Mountain West Conference and are in the ITA Southwest Region.
  • ITA Rankings: The Aztecs are ranked No. 55 nationally by ITA as a team, they do not have anyone ranked nationally in singles or doubles.
  • Leading the Aztecs in Singles: In singles their top player is Julia Wais who has been playing at the No. 1 singles position followed by Alicia Aguilar on court two.
  • Leading the Aztecs in Doubles: Antonana Iriarte and Michela Casanova have played at No. 1 doubles in recent matches, while Julia Wais and Kristin Buth have been playing on court two.
  • The Coach: Peter Mattera is in his 20th season at San Diego State where he has a 286-193 overall record.
