Boise State Upsets No. 39 Washington State, 5-2

BOISE, Idaho The No. 48 Boise State University women’s tennis team knocked off No. 39 Washington State 5-2, Sunday, at the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex.

 

With the win the Broncos improved to their record to 12-2 and earned their fourth victory against a ranked opponent this season.

 

The match began with Boise State capturing the critical doubles point 2-1. Tatiana Ganzha returned to the lineup and teamed with Polina Kokoulina at No. 2 doubles to defeat Amy Toth and Anastesia Opata 8-3. Tiffany Coll and Klaudia Wlodarczyk then dropped Aleksandra Cekic and Aleksandra Stefanova at No. 3, 8-3, to capture the match and the doubles point for Boise State.

 

The Broncos then took a 1-0 lead into singles play against the No. 39 ranked team in the country.

 

Kokoulina defended the No. 2 position as she ousted Toth in straight sets 6-2 and 6-3.

 

Boise State continues to be the keystone for the Broncos as she collected her 12th singles win, all in Boise State victories, when she defeated Cekic at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-2.

 

Coll collected the match clinching point at No. 6 as she knocked off Opata in straight sets 6-4 and 6-1.

 

Stacey Housley collected the final match point for Boise State as she defeated Stefanova at No. 5, 3-6, 6-3 and 7-6.

 

At No. 1, Bianca Jochimsen lost to Ekaterina Burduli 6-1 and 6-0. Jana Mackova lost at No. 3 singles 6-3 and 6-4.

 

Next Boise State will travel to Provo, Utah, Apr. 4, to play BYU. On the same road trip the Broncos will face the University of Denver on Apr. 6, at Denver, Colo.
