Broncos Host Saturday Double Header
BOISE, Idaho - The No. 67 ranked Boise State women's tennis team will open the final month of the 2011 regular season at home, Saturday (April 2), with a double-header against San Jose State and Montana State as the Broncos prepare for a push at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.
Boise State (11-6 overall, 2-0 WAC) will open the weekend with a dual against SJSU at 9 a.m., Saturday morning, at Julia Davis Park. The Broncos are then scheduled to host MSU at 2 p.m., Saturday afternoon, at the Appleton Tennis Center. In the instance of poor weather both matches will be moved to the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex.
Both duals will be free admission. Free parking is also available for all matches at Appleton on the fifth floor of the Lincoln Ave. Parking Structure.
Saturday's duals will mark two of just three remaining regular season home matches for Boise State. The Broncos will conclude their regular season home schedule on April 24 against Hawai'i at noon. Boise State does host the 2011 WAC Championships however, which will run from April 28 to May 1.
SJSU and MSU will kick off the action packed weekend on Friday (April 1) with a showdown at 11 a.m. at Appleton.
Last time out...
The Broncos are coming off a three week stretch in which they only played one match; a 5-2 win over No. 54 Oregon in Boise. Boise State took advantage of its extended break by winning two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches en route to the victory.
Elyse Edwards and Sonia Klamczynska helped put the doubles point within reach with a win at No. 2. Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo would clinch the doubles point at No. 3 to give the Broncos a 1-0 advantage over the Ducks heading into singles.
Boise State would secure the team win with four singles wins as Marlena Pietzuch, Morgan Basil, Klamczynska and Edwards each were victorious to give the Broncos the 5-2 advantage.
With the win Boise State improved to 3-2 at home this season and 5-6 against nationally ranked opponents.
The Broncos enter this week ranked No. 67 in the ITA national team rankings after falling to No. 73 in the March 22 poll. After starting the season at No. 38 the Broncos have spent the entire season ranked in the top 75 nationally. Boise State remained in the top 50 for the first six weeks of the season.
The Broncos currently do not have any players ranked individually in singles or doubles.
Looking at the Spartans...
SJSU heads to Boise looking to improve upon a 5-6 overall record, while the Spartans will also be seeking their first win in WAC (0-0) competition this spring. SJSU is coming off a trio of losses in Las Vegas, Nev. which dropped the Spartans record below .500 for the first time all season. SJSU is now just 2-3 in duals played away from home.
Saturday will mark the first WAC dual of the season for the Spartans after a dual against Nevada was postponed and another against Utah State was canceled due to poor weather.
SJSU currently does not have any players ranked nationally in singles or doubles.
Looking at the Bobcats...
MSU has experienced its share of ups and downs already this season as the Bobcats have played to a 5-7 overall record, but are 3-1 in Big Sky Conference action. MSU will look to capitalize on momentum from a 5-2 win over Eastern Washington in its last outing, after going just 2-4 in the last six matches.
MSU has struggled so far this spring on the road playing to just a 2-4 record in true road duals.
The Bobcats currently do not have any players ranked nationally in singles or doubles.
