Broncos Complete Perfect Home Stand With 4-3 Win Over San Diego

BOISE, Idaho - The No. 43 Boise State women's tennis team completed a 6-0 sweep of their month long home stand, Sunday (March 21) afternoon, as the Broncos managed to hold off the University of San Diego for a 4-3 win against the Toreros at the Appleton Tennis Center.

Boise State improves to 10-4 on the season, which includes the Broncos' current seven dual win streak. Behind that win streak was six consecutive home duals that Boise State took full advantage of. The Broncos are a perfect 7-0 in Boise so far this spring with just three more home duals left on the schedule this season.

One of the keys to for Boise State's recent home success has been strong doubles play. Through the first five wins of the home stand, the Broncos did not surrender one doubles point. That continued on Sunday as Boise State won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to gain a one point advantage going into singles competition.

No. 33 ranked Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale earned the first Bronco doubles win with a 9-7 victory over Juliette Coupez and Maja Sujica at No. 1. Elyse Edwards and Bianca Jochimsen followed that up with an 8-1 win over Justine Perl and Laura Claus to secure the doubles point.

San Diego would rally in singles action, but Boise State was able to score enough wins late to hold off the Toreros' charge. No. 48 ranked Thongdach scored her first singles win of the weekend by beating Coupez, 6-4, 1-0 (retired) at No. 1. Stephanie Jasper earned the second singles win for Boise State by beating Lise Marbach, 6-4, 6-1, to put the Broncos within striking distance of the win.

Edwards managed to seal the deal for Boise State with a win at No. 5, as she took down Alexandra Demidova 6-2, 6-2 to put the dual out of reach for the Broncos.

Boise State hits the road this week to start a strenuous road trip that will include eight consecutive duals away from home. The Broncos return home on April 16 (Friday) for a pair of duals against Idaho and Utah State. Boise State will wrap up its' regular season in Boise on April 17 (Saturday) with a highly anticipated match against Fresno State.
