Palmer Named MW Women's Tennis Player of the Week
March 21, 2018

BOISE, Idaho – Freshman Wilhelmina Palmer earns her first Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors, it was announced today by the Conference office.

Palmer, a true freshman out of Stockholm, Sweden, was outstanding last week, going 3-0 over two matches as she helped lead the Broncos to a victory over Air Force to open Conference play. She becomes the first Bronco to win such an honor this season.

First against BYU, the freshman combined with senior Nancy Menjivar to win 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, helping the team win the doubles point. She then competed at No. 1 singles for the first time in her career, but she was not able to finish her match vs. Mayci Jones.

Against visiting Air Force, Palmer first combined with Menjivar for their second doubles win of the weekend as the Broncos took the doubles point. Then in just her second No. 1 singles action of her career, Palmer defeated TJ Fumigalli, 6-3, 7-5, as the Broncos defeated the Falcons, 5-2. Fumigalli is as tough an opponent as Palmer is going to face in the Mountain West, as she went undefeated last season and was 9-2 at No. 1 singles coming into the match.

Palmer is now 7-2 in singles play this spring and 5-2 when pairing up in doubles with Menjivar.

The Broncos remain at home this weekend, hosting Montana State on Friday, March 21 at 5 p.m. and Idaho on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT.
