No. 43 Boise State Women's Tennis Posts a Perfect 3-0 Record at Shocker Classic

WICHITA, Kan. In their third and final day of the Shocker Classic hosted by Wichita State University, the No. 43 Boise State women’s tennis team snagged their third win of the tournament to finish 3-0 in the tournament. The Broncos (12-4) downed the University of North Florida in a 4-1 Sunday morning match. Due to rain, play was moved to three indoor courts forcing the Broncos’ match to cease once a winner was decided due to later matches needing to play.

The Broncos got off on the right foot in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. The No. 58-ranked doubles team of Pichittra Thongdach and Polina Kokoulina quickly notched a victory for the Broncos, downing North Florida’s No. 1 doubles team of Natalia Sanchez and Carolina Melo, 8-1. Boise State’s No. 2 doubles team of Laura Baum and Jana Mackova also earned a quick win over Vanessa Sanchez and Ina Durcakova, 8-3, clinching the doubles point for the Broncos. In the No. 3 position, Stacey Housley and Klaudia Wlodarczyk topped the Osprey’s Victoria Krook and Maria Melihova, 8-4.

In singles play, the Broncos captured wins at the No. 1, 3, and 4 spots before the match was retired. Thongdach earned a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Natalia Sanchez in the No. 1 singles position, while Kokoulina downed Melihova, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 3 singles slot. Wlodarczyk was the third Bronco to earn a singles win, downing Durcakova, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 4 position. The Broncos’ Housley was ahead in the No. 5 singles match, 6-2, over Krook before play was stopped while Mackova had a 4-3 lead over Melo in the No. 6 slot.

The Osprey’s were able to earn their single point in the No. 2 singles match when Vanessa Sanchez snagged a 6-0 first set win over Bianca Jochimsen and had a 1-0 lead in the second set before Jochimsen retired from play.

Boise State now improves to a 12-4 record this season, including a 1-4 away record and a 4-0 record on neutral courts.

The Broncos will continue their season next week when they travel to Southern California for three matches over spring break. They will first face Cal State Northridge on March 23, followed by a March 25 match at UC Santa Barbara.
