Broncos Shutout Furman, 7-0

LAS VEGAS, Nev.  - The No. 52 ranked Boise State women's tennis team managed to keep its record against unranked opponents perfect (6-0), Saturday (March 12), as the Broncos swept Furman, 7-0, at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. to improve to 10-5 overall this season.

Boise State (2-0 Western Athletic Conference) evened its current road trip record to 1-1 on Saturday, rebounding from a 6-1 loss to No. 43 UNLV in the weekend opener. The Broncos swept both singles and doubles matches against the Paladins (4-6) in cruising to their third win (3-1) on a neutral court this year.

Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo kicked things off for Boise State in doubles action with an 8-2 win over Michele Stanford and Lauren Kline at No. 2. Lauren Megale and Marlena Pietzuch would clinch the doubles point for the Broncos next at No. 1 as they knocked off Amanda Murray and Margaret Boyette, 8-4. Morgan Basil and Sonia Klamczynska completed the doubles sweep last at No. 3 as they beat Monica Arguello and Jennifer Betts, 8-4.

Boise State would keep rolling in singles competition as the Broncos won four matches in straight sets to secure the team win. Klamczynska extended the Boise State team lead to 2-0 with the Broncos first singles win of the day, as she beat Boyette, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 2. Pietzuch would put the dual victory within reach next at No. 4 with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Murray.

Basil wasted little time ending any hopes of a Furman rally as she knocked off Stanford, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 to give Boise State the decisive 4-0 lead. Vo would follow suit next at No. 6 with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Susan Bitetti, to extend the Bronco lead to 5-0.

Boise State would grind out two more third set victories in singles competition to complete the shutout against the Paladins, which started with a super tie-breaker win by Megale at No. 1. After splitting the first two sets against Arguello, Megale squeaked out a three-point win in the super breaker to secure a 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 victory.

Jasper would put the finishing touches on the dual with a final win at No. 3 as she held off Kline, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to give the Broncos their third shutout win in their last four duals.

Boise State will conclude its three dual road trip in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sunday (March 13) as the Broncos are set to meet No. 35 SMU at 10 a.m. (PST).
