Bronco Women Pick Up Sixth Straight Win, Defeat Washington State, 4-3

PULLMAN, Wash. The No. 30-ranked Boise State women’s tennis team took to the courts this afternoon, picking up their sixth straight win, defeating unranked Washington State University, 4-3 at the Simmelink Indoor Tennis Courts. The Broncos improve to 13-2 overall and a 6-2 away record while the Cougars fell to 3-12 on the season.

 

Winning all three doubles matches, the Broncos started with a 1-0 lead in the team scores. Laura Baum and Bianca Jochimsen were the first to earn a win, defeating Marina Nicolas and Bianca Selaru, 8-0, in the No. 3 match. Shortly after, No. 79-ranked Lauren Megale and Pichittra Thongdach notched an 8-3 win over Elisabeth Fournier and Ekaterina Kamendova in the No. 1 spot. Vivien Silfany and Klaudia Wlodarczyk were able to close out the Bronco sweep with an 8-6 win over Aleksandra Cekic and Iona Oprea in the No. 2 match.

 

The Broncos were able to jump to a 3-0 team lead after Silfany picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Cekic in the No. 2 match and No. 123-ranked Megale upended Kamendova, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 match.

 

The Cougars fought back, winning the next two matches to bring the team score to 3-2. WSU’s Fournier garnered a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jochimsen in the No. 3 match for their first team point. Nicolas was able to a second point for the Cougs’ defeating Baum, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 match.

 

Boise State was able to clinch the team title with a win by Rocio Frej over Jessica Gomez, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match. Washington State closed out the match with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win by Oprea over Boise State’s Wlodarczyk in the No. 4 match.

 

The Broncos continue their season in one week, competing at San Jose State on Wed., Mar. 18. They will also head to St. Mary’s for a Fri., Mar. 20 match, followed by a Sat., Mar. 21 match at Pacific to round out their road trip. Boise State women’s tennis will return home for their final home matches on Apr. 3 and 4.
