Broncos Tame the Tigers, 6-1

BOISE, Idaho The No. 45 Boise State University women’s tennis team captured the doubles point and five of six singles points to defeat the Pacific 6-1 at the Appleton Tennis Center, Sunday, to improve to 9-2 on the season.


The doubles teams got things started for the Broncos. Tiffany Coll and Polina Kokoulina paired together for the first time and earned the shutout victory, 8-0, over Vana Mrazovic and Svenja Arens. At the No. 1 position, Laura Baum and Jana Mackova defeated Helen Schneider and Sasha Fisher 8-1, to improve to 20-3 on the year and 9-2 in dual match play.


After collecting the doubles point, Boise State made short work of Pacific in the No. 3-5 positions, to secure the match for the Broncos.


Mackova defeated Schneider 6-1 and 6-0 to improve to 19-5 in singles.


At No. 4, Klaudia Wlodarczyk ousted Carla Tamborini, 6-2 and 6-0, to record her ninth victory in 11 attempts with the Broncos.


Stacey Housley collected her team-leading, 21st win as she dropped Fisher in straight sets 6-2 and 6-2.


Kokoulina, playing No. 2, also captured a match point for Boise State as she vanquished Arens 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4 to secure the victory.


At No. 1, Bianca Jochimsen and Mrazovic battled to a super tiebreaker which Mrazovic eventually won 2-6, 7-5 and 11-9.


No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles were not played due to a player shortage for Pacific.


Boise State will now prepare to take on Washington and Gonzaga at Seattle, Wash., Mar. 23-24.
