Broncos Down Montana for Weekend Sweep
BOISE, Idaho - The No. 62 ranked Boise State women's tennis team enjoyed a near flawless finish to their weekend home stand, Sunday (March 6) morning, as the Broncos earned a 7-0 sweep of Montana at the BOAS Indoor Tennis Complex to improve to 2-2 in Boise this season.
Boise State (9-4 overall, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) opened its weekend with a 7-0 win over New Mexico, Friday (March 4), to snap a two dual losing streak. The Broncos continued to roll against the Grizzlies (6-7) on Sunday, sweeping the three doubles matches before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Boise State did not allow any singles set closer than 6-2, and won four singles sets without losing a game.
In doubles, Elyse Edwards and Sonia Klamczynska got things going for the Broncos with a quick 8-1 win over Heather Davidson and Lauren Gibson at No. 2. Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo would waste little time clinching the doubles point as they topped Ashley Mackey and Madeline Murray, 8-2, at No. 3.
Lauren Megale and Marlena Pietzuch finished off Boise State's doubles sweep last at No. 1 as they earned an 8-5 win over Rebecca Bran and Whitney Paluch.
The Broncos kept their momentum rolling into singles competition where the women would sweep all six matches en route to the 7-0 team victory.
Klamczynska managed to extend the Boise State lead to 2-0 with a win at No. 2 as she beat Davidson, 6-0, 6-1. Morgan Basil would put the team victory within reach for the Broncos next at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mackey.
Edwards wasted little time clinching the dual win for Boise State as she topped Gibson, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 to give the Broncos a 4-0 lead.
Boise State wasn't done however, as the women rolled to wins in the last three singles matches to complete their second shutout win in three days. Jasper would earn the next Bronco victory at No. 3 where she beat Paluch, 6-1, 6-1. She was followed by Vo who knocked off Murray, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6. Megale would finish off the day at No. 1 where she beat Bran, 6-1, 6-2.
Sunday marked the end of a four dual home stretch for Boise State, as the Broncos will hit the road this week for face a trio of matches in Las Vegas, Nev. Boise State will play UNLV (March 11), Furman (March 12) and SMU (March 13) during the road trip. All three duals are scheduled for 10 a.m. (PST).
