Women's Tennis Heads to Albuquerque to Face New Mexico and Western Michigan

The No. 59 Bronco women’s tennis team (6-3) will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the weekend to take on No. 64 New Mexico and No. 66 Western Michigan on Friday, February 29 and Saturday, March 1, respectively. The match between BSU and UNM is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start on Friday, while the match between BSU and UWM is scheduled fro 3 p.m. on Saturday on the campus of the University of New Mexico.

Boise State dropped two spots to the No. 59 spot this week in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I College Rankings. The Broncos have no athletes ranked in singles or doubles in the ITA’s national rankings from February 20, 2008.

New Mexico enters the weekend after a long break, playing their most recent match on February 18. Then the Lobos dropped a 4-2 match to Louisiana-Lafayette at home to put their overall record at 3-4 for the season. The Lobos currently rank No. 64 in the nation while singles player Ola Abou-Zekry holds the No. 94 rank in the nation.

Western Michigan enters the weekend of competition after going 3-0 this past weekend at home. The Broncos were able to sweep all three matches last weekend topping Illinois-Chicago, Detroit, and Green Bay all with 7-0 scores. With the three wins the Broncos improved to a 6-3 record coming into this weekend’s matches. UWM holds a No. 66 team ranking this week while the doubles team of Priyanka Parekh and Noriko Saruta hold the No. 54 spot in the national rankings.

The Broncos played host to Idaho, Wyoming, and Northern Arizona in the Boise State Classic last weekend, going 3-0 on the weekend to improve to 6-3 on the season. The Broncos started by playing WAC opponent Idaho on Friday, February 22 where they won in an easy 6-1 match. On Saturday, the Broncos swept Wyoming, winning 7-0 while they topped Northern Arizona on Sunday, 6-1. The Broncos improved to 6-0 on the season at home with their three wins last season.
