Broncos Crush No. 72 Texas Tech

PROVO, Utah The No. 49 Boise State women’s tennis team refused to come back to Boise without a win down in Provo as the Broncos beat No. 72 Texas Tech, 5-2, Friday.


The Broncos swept doubles play as Pichittra Thongdach and Polina Kokoulina beat Kelsy Garland and Samantha van der Drift, 9-7, at the No. 1 spot, while teammates Laura Baum and Jana Mackova got the win against the Red Raiders’ Kerryn Potgeiter and Janet Durham, 8-3.


Finishing the sweep for the Broncos was Bianca Jochimsen and Klaudia Wlodarczyk who beat Maria Andres and Leah Roberts, 8-3.


Thongdach continued her winning streak as she beat van der Drift (6-7, 6-3, 6-1) in the No. 1 singles spot, while Jochimsen followed her performance up with a win of her own again Garland, beating her 6-4, 6-3.


Also seeing success on the day was Kokoulina, as she crushed Simone Templeton in the No. 3 singles spot (7-5, 6-4), while senior Stacey Housley closed out the match with a win over Maria Andrews (4-6, 6-3, 10-8).


The Broncos now return home to host the Boise State Classic, Feb. 22-24.
