Broncos Earn 5-2 Victory Over Colorado, Complete First of Seven Weeks on the Road

BOULDER, Colo. The No. 37-ranked Boise State women’s team bounced back from their upset loss to the University of Utah on Thursday, picking up a 5-2 win over the No. 47-ranked University of Colorado on Saturday at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House. The Broncos improve to 7-2 on the season while the Buffs fall to 4-4.

 

The Broncos dominated in doubles play after winning all three matches to earn the doubles point. Vivien Silfany and Klaudia Wlodarczyk were the first to pick up a win defeating Franziska Jendrian and Ania Anuszkiewicz, 8-4, in the No. 2 match. In the No. 1 spot, Lauren Megale and Pichittra Thongdach teamed to defeat Camila Belassi and Melisa Esposito, 8-6, to clinch the doubles point. The Broncos’ Laura Baum and Bianca Jochimsen helped to sweep the doubles matches with their 8-7 win over Abbie Probert and Michala Hedelund Jensen in the No. 3 doubles match.

 

The Broncos went on to win the next four team points by picking up wins at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 1 and No. 5 singles spots to clinch the team title. Megale was the first to earn a singles win, defeating Esposito, 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 2 spot. Silfany followed shortly behind with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Probert in the No. 3 spot while No. 104-ranked Thongdach earned a 7-6, 6-1 win over Belassi in the No. 1 spot to clinch the Broncos’ fourth team point. Wlodarczyk picked up the Broncos’ final point of the day, winning the No. 5 match over Anuszkiewicz, 6-2, 6-3.

 

The Buffs were able to earn two wins on the day, their first coming from a close 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win by Jendrian over Boise State’s Jochimsen in the No. 4 slot. The No. 6 match also went to Colorado with Hedelund Jensen defeating Rocio Frej, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (2) to finish off the day.

 

The Broncos take a little time off from competition before hitting the road again, traveling to BYU in Provo, Utah on Feb. 25 and Albuquerque, N.M. to face New Mexico and Northern Arizona on Feb. 27 and 28.
