Women's Tennis to Face Ranked Opponents BYU and Texas Tech

COMING UP:
The Bronco women’s tennis team will look to improve on their 2-1 record this Thursday and Friday when they head to Provo, Utah. The Broncos will take on No. 58 ranked Brigham Young University on Thursday, February 14 at 3 p.m. and will continue their play on Saturday, February 15 at 3 p.m. against No. 72 Texas Tech University. All matches will be played at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts and admission is free.

RANKINGS:
Boise State dropped seven spots to the No. 49 national team rankings according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Singles and doubles rankings are set to be released on February 20, the first time since pre-season rankings on January 8. Boise State’s Bianca Jochimsen still holds the No. 81 singles ranking while Pichittra Thongdach and Polina Kokoulina sit in the No. 40 spot in doubles play.

ABOUT BYU:
BYU enters the weekend with the No. 58 ITA team ranking, while no Cougars hold singles or doubles rankings. The Cougars (2-5) return to play after a February 5 loss to Notre Dame.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH:
Having lost only one match so far this season as well, Texas Tech will travel to Provo after securing two home wins over North Texas and No. 68 Nevada last weekend. Two of the Red Raiders' freshmen, Simone Templeton and Kelsy Garland, remain undefeated in singles actions so far this season.

LAST TIME OUT:
The BSU women began their 2008 spring season this past week, posting a 2-1 record. They first hit the road to Eugene, where they fell 4-3 to No. 58 Oregon on Wednesday, February 6. On Saturday, February 8, they returned to Boise to host Eastern Washington and No. 67 Utah. The Broncos swept the Eagles in an early morning match, 7-0, before fighting off the Utes in the evening to earn the 4-3 win.

RETURNING HOME:
Boise State will return home for the Boise State Classic held Friday, February 22-Sunday, February 24 at the BSU Boas Tennis Center. After the tournament, the Broncos only have four remaining home matches throughout the spring season. They play San Diego and St. Mary’s on March 7 and 8 and finish their home schedule with the Boise State Spring Invite on April 5 with Portland State and Utah.
