Broncos Out-Dual the Grizzlies

BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University women’s tennis team swept Montana, 7-0 in the Boise State Invitational to improve its record to 4-0 on the season.


The Broncos began the day by taking two of three doubles matches. Bianca Jochimsen and Tiffany Coll broke the serve of Montana’s Martyna Nowak and Jessica Souza on three separate occasions to earn the victory, 8-2. Polina Kokoulina and Klaudia Wlodarczyk dropped the next match 8-5 to Cheyne Ursich and Danni Paulson. With the doubles point on the line, Boise State turned to its number one doubles team, Jana Mackova and Laura Baum. After battling Montana’s Liz Walker and Mari Castello to a tie at 6-6 and with the score knotted at 40-40 in the game, the duo from Boise State broke the serve of Montana to take a 7-6 lead and prevail, 8-6.


In singles, Stacey Housley got things started for the Broncos with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Cheyne Ursich. Coll then followed up with a 6-1, 6-1, victory of her own over Souza. Playing in the No. 1 position, Kokoulina defeated Walker 6-0, 6-2, to give Boise State the match clinching point.


Baum then earned a 6-3, 6-1, win over Nowak, while Wlodarczyk defeated Paulson, 6-4 and 6-2. Jochimsen, playing No. 2, then ousted Mari Castello 6-2 and 6-2 to sweep the match.


The Boise State Invitational will continue at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, when Boise State faces the Wolf Pack of Nevada.
