Broncos Complete Perfect Weekend with Win Over Kansas State and Third 7-0 Win in Two Days

BOISE, Idaho The No. 38-ranked Boise State women’s tennis defended their home courts for the second straight day at the Boas Tennis Center. The Broncos earned their third 7-0 victory in two days, defeating ITA Central Region opponent Kansas State on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Broncos earned three doubles victories and six singles victories for the third straight match to defeat the Wildcats and improve to a 6-1 overall record. Boise State also holds a 5-0 at home, a 4-0 record against regional teams and a 1-0 record against Western Athletic Conference teams.

 

Boise State started off with winning the doubles point with Rocio Frej and Klaudia Wlodarczyk leading the way at the No. 3 spot, defeating Natasha Vieira and Petra Chuda, 8-2. Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale followed shortly after with an 8-2 win over Nina Sertic and Katerina Kudlackova in the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 doubles match, Laura Baum and Bianca Jochimsen completed the Broncos’ doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Mariya Slupska and Antea Huljey.

 

In singles play, Megale made quick work of Sertic to be the first off the court for the Broncos, winning 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 match. Frej defeated Vieira, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot to finish just after Megale. Wlodarczyk was the next to earn a win, defeating Chuda in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Jochimsen put the Broncos up 5-0 with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Kudlackova at the No. 4 spot. Vivien Silfany saw action for the first time this spring season for the Broncos, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot over Slupska. With the perfect 7-0 team score on the line, the No. 1 singles match became a head-to-head battle. Thongdach faced KSU’s Huljey winning the first set, 6-0, however the Wildcat came back with a 7-6 win in the second set forcing a 10-point match tie break. Coming from behind in the tie break, Thongdach pulled off a 12-10 win in the tie break to win the match 6-0, 6-7, 12-10, giving the Broncos a perfect 7-0 win.

 

The Broncos continue their season on Thurs., Feb. 12 at Utah and continue their road trip, traveling to Boulder, Colo., to face the University of Colorado on Sat., Feb. 14. The pair of matches will kick off a seven-week road schedule for the Broncos with the team returning for their next home match on Fri., Apr. 3 against Louisiana Tech.
