WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK
  • Schedule: Boise State (4-1) hits the road for its second road match of the year and its second against a nationally ranked opponent in the Brigham Young Cougars. The match is set for 12 p.m. (Mountain) Friday afternoon.
  • Location: The match will be played at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts in Provo, Utah.  
  • Last Time: These two met was last year in Boise where the Cougars edged the Broncos 4-3 rallying from 3-2 down to win it on the final singles match in a 10-point set three tiebreak - Savannah Ware (BYU) def. Sammie Watson (BSU) 6-0, 2-6, 10-4. 
  • Regional Match-up: This is a Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region match featuring four players ranked regionally in singles and six ranked in doubles. Representing BYU in singles will be Mayci Jones (No. 4), Nicolette Tran (No. 17) and Meaghan Sheehan-Dizon (No. 18) and in doubles Jones/Tobi Miclat (No. 1) and Tran/Savannah Ware (No. 9). Representing Boise State in singles will be Teal Vosburgh (No. 16) and in doubles Bobbi Oshiro/Sammie Watson (No. 8).

QUICK LOOK AT BOISE STATE
  • The Record: Boise State enters the weekend 4-1 overall.
  • Recently:  The Broncos host a pair of matcheslast weekend sweeping Seattle U. 6-1 and Weber State 5-2. 
  • Last Year: The Broncos went 13-10 overall during 2014 and 4-3 versus Mountain West opponents.
  • The Broncos at Home: Boise State is currently 4-0 at home this year and went 10-4 at home last season competing at both the Boas Indoor Tennis Center and the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center.
  • Attendance:  Boise State finished the 2014 campaign ranked third nationally in total attendance, while the men came in at fourth.  
  • The Broncos on the Road: The Broncos lost their first road match of the semester two weeks ago 6-1 at No. 52 Washington State in Pullman, Wash. The Broncos went 3-6 on the road in 2014.
  • The Coach: Beck Roghaar is in his fifth season as head coach at Boise State where he is 55-41 overall in team duals, his career mark is the same.
      
STANDOUT FROM WEEK THREE
  • Last weekend the Broncos swept a pair of contests over Seattle U. 6-1 on Friday (Jan. 30) and 5-2 versus Weber State on Sunday (Feb. 1), both matches were played in the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
  • Bronco of the Week: Bobbi Oshiro went undefeated with a combined 4-0 mark in doubles and singles. 
  • Doubles: The junior from Hawaii teamed up with Sammie Watson at No. 1 doubles to sweep their two matches in decisive fashion by 6-3 scores. 
  • Singles: Oshiro then swept both of her singles matches playing on court five where she put both opponents away in straight sets and took less than 40 minutes in each match to win. She defeated Seattle U’s Kailyn Skjonsby 6-0, 6-1 on Friday and Weber State’s Emily Tanner 6-1, 6-1, both were the first singles victory for the Broncos spotting them quick 2-0 leads in the team score.   
      
ITA REGIONAL RANKINGS
  • Boise State has three players regionally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Regional rankings come out once in the spring semester just before the season starts, they are based on fall results. 
  • Singles: Junior Teal Vosburgh went 12-3 in the fall season and begins the 2015 dual season ranked 16th in the ITA Mountain Region, she is the only Bronco ranked for singles. 
  • Doubles: The doubles team of senior Sammie Watson and junior Bobbi Oshiro enter the year ranked eighth in the region after going 8-2 during the fall semester.
