Women's Tennis Set for Weekend Doubleheader

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend when it hosts a doubleheader, Saturday Feb. 4. The Broncos will take on Weber State at 10 a.m. before facing Seattle almost immediately after, at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Boas Tennis Center just off the Boise State Campus.

Regional Rankings - Marlena Pietzuch is tied for 19th individually in the Mountain Region and pairs with Sonia Klamczynska for the No. 5 doubles team.
Manuela Pietzuch and Sandy Vo make up the 12th-ranked doubles team in the Mountain Region.

Looking at Weber State - The Wildcats are still looking for their first win this spring, coming to Boise with an 0-4 record. One of the team's losses came to a future Boise State opponent, UNLV (7-0). The squad is young one, consisting of one freshman, eight sophomores, one junior and one senior.

Looking at Seattle - Seattle is 3-3 this season with wins against Pacific Lutheran, Lewis-Clark State and Eastern Washington. Junior Alexandra Farrar and senior Katrina Schwab have split time at the No. 1 position for the Redhawks, with Farrar getting the top-match entries as of late. Lindsay Newman leads the team with three duel wins and five overall wins this season. Each of her duel wins have come at the No. 3 spot.

What Happened Last Time - The Broncos split a pair of matches in their season-opening weekend, Jan. 20-22. The team defeated Utah State 5-2 in its season opener which started with a doubles point, and was followed with wins by Klamczynska, Marlena Pietzuch, Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil.

Agianst Denver, Boise State fell 6-1 getting its lone point from Marlena Pietzuch.

2012 Team - The Boise State women's tennis team is coming off a 17-8 season and a 5-1 record in the WAC. The Broncos advanced to the conference finals but fell 4-3 to Fresno State. Lone senior Sonia Klamczynska returns to lead a young Bronco team that includes one freshman and two sophomores. Manuela Pietzuch joins the Boise State roster after transferring from Virginia Commonwealth and joins her sister Marlena.
