Bronco Women Earn 5-1 Win Over No. 39 Louisville, Split ITA National Team Indoor First and Second Rounds, 1-1
2009 ITA Kick-Off Weekend

CLEMSON, S.C. The No. 41-ranked Boise State women’s tennis team pulled an upset victory over No. 39-ranked University of Louisville Sunday morning in the second round of the ITA National Team Indoor tournament. The Broncos (3-1) earned a 5-1 victory over Louisville (2-2) at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Clemson University.


The Broncos started out strong, winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale were the first to earn a win for the Broncos, defeating Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea, 8-0, in the No. 1 doubles match. Louisville tied up the doubles play with a No. 2 doubles win by Jo-Ann Van Aerde and Lindsey Jones, 8-5, over Bianca Jochimsen and Laura Baum. However, the Broncos were able to clinch the doubles point with a Rocio Frej and Klaudia Wlodarczyk win over Lauren Imre and Amelia Harris, 8-6, in the No. 3 spot.


In singles play, Thongdach was again the first off the court, earning a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Imre in the No. 1 singles spot. Next off the courts was Wlodarczyk who earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Baez in the No. 4 singles match. With the Broncos ahead 3-0, Megale earned the next point, clinching the match for the Broncos. Megale defeated Gorbea, 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the No. 2 match to help the Broncos win the overall title. Two other matches were near completion and were played to the finish. Louisville’s Jones was able to produce one team point for the Cardinals, earning a 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-6 win over Jochimsen in the No. 3 spot. Boise State’s Baum was the final match completed on the day, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sarah Miller, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match.


The Broncos will return home to Boise to host Colorado State, Utah State and Kansas State this upcoming weekend. The Broncos first take on CSU at 9:30 am on Fri., Feb. 6 followed by a 3:30 pm match against USU on Friday. They face KSU on Sat., Feb. 7 at 2 pm. All matches will be held at the Boas Tennis Center and are free of charge.
