Women's Tennis Opens Season With A Victory On the Road

LOGAN, Utah - The Boise State University women’s tennis team opened its spring season with a 5-2 victory over Utah State in Logan, Utah.


In doubles competition, Laura Baum and Jana Mackova, playing in the number one position, knocked off Lauren and Erin Monson, 8-0. Tiffany Coll and Bianca Jochimsen then defeated Brittney Watts and Bridgette Strickland, 8-1, to collect the doubles point for the Broncos.


In singles, Boise State earned victories in the third through sixth positions without dropping a set.


Mackova defeated Brittney Harris 6-0 and 6-2, while Stacey Housley broke Lauren Monson three times in the first set, en route to dominating the match, 6-0 and 6-1.


At No. 5, newcomer Klaudia Wlodarczyk earned her first victory as a member of the Boise State women’s tennis team, with a 6-3 and 7-6 win over Strickland.


Playing at the number six position, senior Tiffany Coll vanquished Erin Crane, 6-2 and 6-2.


This was the first dual match of the three-match road trip. The Broncos will now play Montana State-Billings in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, Feb. 2, before facing the University of Utah on Saturday, Feb. 3, also in Salt Lake City, Utah.
