No. 33 Boise State Falls to No. 46 DePaul in Final ITA Kick-Off Dual

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 33 Boise State women's tennis team finished its' weekend at the 2010 ITA Kick-Off in South Bend, Ind. on a sour note, Sunday (Jan. 31), as the Broncos dropped their second consecutive dual with a 5-2 loss against No. 46 DePaul.

The Broncos (2-2) failed to win the doubles point for the second consecutive dual, which put them in a hole against the Blue Demons (2-1) that was too big to overcome. Katarina Milinkovic and Gia McKnight earned the first doubles win for DePaul with an 8-2 win against Bianca Jochimsen and Stephanie Jasper in the No. 2 match. The Blue Demons secured the doubles point next at No. 3, as Sandra Zmak and Kirsten Gambrell beat Elyse Edwards and Rocio Frej, 8-6.

Despite being too late to matter for the doubles point, Boise State's Pichittra Thongdach and Lauren Megale did play the No. 9 ranked doubles pair to an a near upset. No. 24 ranked Thongdach and Megale gave No. 9 Anna Redesci and Selma Salkovic all they could handle before falling to the Blue Demon's No. 1 doubles team, 8-7.

Singles competition wasn't much more favorable for the Broncos, unfortunately, as Boise State dropped the first two singles matches that finished to fall behind 3-0. In the No. 3 match, Milinkovic scored the first singles points for DePaul with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bianca Jochimsen. She was followed by McKnight, who defeated Edwards, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 match.

Boise State scored its' first point of the dual in the No. 6 match as Frej beat Gambrell, 6-2, 6-4. DePaul would clinch the win in the next match that finished, however, ending the Broncos' comeback bid as Salkovic beat Megale, 6-0, 6-3.

The Blue Demon scored their last point in the No. 4 match as Zmak beat Jasper, 6-1, 7-5. Boise State managed to narrow the final margin with a win at No. 1 by Thongdach, who beat Redesci in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 1-0).

Boise State returns home this week and will host its first home dual of the indoor season next Sunday (Feb. 7), when the Broncos face the University of Colorado at 12:30 p.m. at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
