BSU Women's Tennis Hosts Montana State, Idaho in Season Opener

BOISE, Idaho The Boise State women’s tennis team is set to kick-off their 2008 spring season on Friday when they play host to Montana State and Idaho in dual matches. The Broncos will play both matches on Friday, first facing Montana State at 9:30 a.m. followed by Idaho at 4:30 p.m.

The Broncos and Bobcats both begin their spring seasons this weekend; however Montana State is scheduled to face Idaho State on Thursday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m.

The University of Idaho will enter the weekend with three matches under their belts. On January 20 and 21 the Vandals split their first two matches for a 1-1 record thus far this season. In their season opener, Idaho traveled to Lewiston, Idaho to face Lewis and Clark State, a team they swept 7-0. The following day the Vandals traveled to Pullman where they faced #50 Washington State University, losing 0-7. The Vandals will play Eastern Washington on Wednesday, January 30 prior to coming to Boise for the multi-team dual match weekend.

The Broncos hope to use their success from the fall season this spring, counting heavily on transfers Pichittra Thongdack (So.) and Klaudia Wlodarczyk (Jr.) who posted 11-3 and 10-5 fall records, respectively. Senior Stacey Housley will also make a big impact after posting a 12-1 singles record this fall.

Looking to be the strongest doubles team, Polina Kokoulina and Thongdack will continue their excellent 8-3 record in the fall while Laura Baum and Jana Mackova hope to improve on their 5-2 record.

The two BSU matches on Friday will be the first of nine home matches this season. The Broncos will also host Eastern Washington, Utah, San Diego, St. Mary’s, Portland State, and Utah while also hosting the Boise State Classic in February.

All matches from Friday, February 1 through Sunday, February 3 will be at the Boas Tennis Center in Boise. Admission to all matches will be free of charge.
