No. 38 Boise State Tops No. 71 Colorado, 6-1

BOULDER, Colo. - The No. 38 ranked Boise State women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep of its road trip to Colorado, Sunday (Jan. 23) afternoon, with a 6-1 win over No. 71 University of Colorado to improve to 2-0 (0-0 Western Athletic Conference) on the season.

The Broncos, who opened the season with a 5-2 win at the University of Denver on Friday (Jan. 21), took care of the Buffaloes in near perfect fashion. The women won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches en route to the victory. The Broncos won all of their singles matches in straight sets.

Boise State opened the day with strong play in their first two doubles matches to secure a 1-0 lead early on. Stephanie Jasper and Sandy Vo scored the first doubles win by beating Carla Manzi Tenorio and Kristina Schleich, 8-3, at No. 3. Lauren Megale and Marlena Pietzuch clinched the doubles point next at No. 1 with an 8-3 win against Michala Hedelund Jensen and Abbie Probert.

The Broncos capitalized on their early lead with a pair of singles wins to extend the team score to 3-0. Sonia Klamczynska earned Boise State's first singles win of the day with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Probert at No. 2. Megale put the dual win within reach next at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Erin Sanders.

After dropping a three set match at No. 3, Boise State clinched the team win at No. 5. Elyse Edwards beat Ania Anuszkiewicz, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Broncos their second win of the season. Pietzuch and Vo would each score singles wins to conclude the day and give Boise State its final lead of 6-1. Pietzuch beat Schleich, 7-6 (5), 7-5, while Vo knocked off Manzi Tenorio, 8-6.

The Broncos will look to use their momentum to roll into the biggest test of their young season; the 2011 ITA Kick-Off. Boise State will travel to Evanston, Ill. next Saturday (Jan. 29) to face Nebraska for a chance to compete at the ITA Indoor Team Championships, Feb. 18-21.

The Broncos and Cornhuskers are part of a four team pool with Northwestern and Harvard. The top team from the pool will advance to the Indoor Championships.
