Bronco Women's Tennis Opens 2018 Slate Saturday
Jan. 17, 2018

BOISE, Idaho -- Women's tennis head coach Beck Roghaar announces the 2018 women's tennis schedule, with the season opener set for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. vs. Whitman.

"I am really pleased with how the schedule came together," explained Roghaar. "The teams we face off against offer us the opportunities we need to gain a very solid national ranking as well as fully prepare ourselves for our goals of winning a Mountain West championship and going to the NCAA Tournament."

The Broncos will host 11 home matches this season, highlighted by nonconference matches against Washington State (March 5), BYU (March 16), Idaho (March 25) and Montana (March 27). The Broncos also host three conference matches against Air Force (March 18), New Mexico (April 13) and Utah State (April 21). The Utah State match is the final match of the 2018 regular season and will be the Broncos' Senior Day.

Road contests for the Broncos include a match at Arizona (Jan. 26), a match at Denver (Feb. 10), at Colorado (Feb. 11), at Idaho State (Feb. 16), at Utah (Feb. 18), at Weber State (Feb. 25), at Wyoming (March 30) and at Colorado State (April 1).

"With four Pac-12 teams on the schedule, opponents with national rankings, as well as two other conference champions that went to the NCAA Tournament last year, we feel like we have some awesome opportunities ahead."

The Broncos will also host the Mountain West Tennis Championships April 26-29 at the Appleton Tennis Center.

"Our conference looks great in both divisions again this year," said Roghaar. "Three of our five conference matches are at home this year and hosting the MWC championships here at Boise State is a huge added bonus for us. It will be the first time since 2011 that the tournament will be played in Boise and we're elated to be able to play the conference tournament on our home courts in front of the best fans in college tennis."

Depending on weather, the matches will be played either at Boas Indoor or the Appleton Tennis Center, dependent on weather. Matches early in the season will be played at Boas.

The Broncos return all three 2017 All-Mountain West honorees in 2018, while adding two strong freshmen in Wilhelmina Palmer and Vanessa Timm into the mix. The team is led by sophomore captain Jovana Kuljanin. The Broncos are a young squad, with just one senior, Nancy Menjivar.

"Last year we had a tough schedule and four freshmen in the lineup, but we competed well and beat some great programs. With the experience we gained, players we added, and things we've learned along the way, I know our team is capable and ready to beat some really elite teams," said Roghaar.
