Oct. 11, 2017

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah  - Anja Dokic and Lilian Poling recorded singles victories on the opening day of the ITA Mountain Region Championships to lead Boise State in Salt Lake City. The Boise State sophomore tandem advances into Thursday’s round of 64.

Dokic faced Utah’s Leah Heimuli in the round of 128 on Wednesday. The Bronco won the first set easily 6-0, but was taken to three sets before dispatching Heimuli 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. Dokic will now face either Idaho’s Maria Tavares or Angela Walker from Idaho State in the second round.

Poling’s victory was a little easier than Dokic’s today as she won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 over Idaho State’s Melissa Coburn. Poling will play the winner of the Maria Paula Medina (UTEP) and Izumi Asano (UNLV) match in the round of 64.

The other three Broncos will be forced to battle through the back draw from this point forward as all three fell in the opening round. Jovana Kuljanin fell to Denver’s Arisha in straight sets. Boise State freshmen Wilhelmina Palmer and Vanessa Timm also fell in straight sets in the round of 128.

The lone doubles match for Boise State today saw Timm and Kuljanin fall in a tight 8-6 contest to New Mexico State's Lindsay Harlas and Yadira Rubio.
