Six Broncos Advance at ITA Mountain Regional
Vosburgh is one of six to advance.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Boise State opened the women’s tennis USTA/ITA Mountain Regional in Las Vegas strong Wednesday advancing four in singles and two doubles teams into the next round. The day started off with doubles where the teams of Morgan Basil/Sandy Vo and Sammie Watson/Anissa Bryant-Swift won their opening matches to reach the round of 32. In singles the Broncos advanced four into the round of 64 in Watson, Bryant-Swift, Bobbi Oshiro and Teal Vosburgh, they join Basil and Vo who were seeded and received byes into tomorrow’s round.

In doubles Boise State advanced two of its teams into the round of 32 as Morgan Basil and Sandy Vo easily took down the Stuhlmann sisters, Ashley and Amber, from Utah State 8-1. The seniors will now face BYU’s team of Savannah Ware and Morgan Anderson.

Joining the seniors in the next round are Sammie Watson and Anissa Bryant-Swift as the duo downed Air Force’s Anastasia Hueffner and Tracy Landrum in a closer contest by a 8-6 score. They will take on UNLV’s team of Paola Artiga and Santa Shumilina in the next round.

Sophomores Megan LaLone and Bobbi Oshiro fell in a hard fought match 8-5 to Montana’s Ashley Mackey and Maddy Murray. They will now play through the back draw starting on Friday. Also going into the back draw are Teal Vosburgh and Sara Brown who were defeated 8-6 by Colorado’s Julyette Steur and Ashley Tiefel.

Singles followed the doubles competition where Boise State saw four of its six Broncos advance into the next round with victories today. Watson opened with a tough three-set win over Beatriz Flores of Idaho 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. The junior will now play Wyoming’s Veronica Popovici in the next phase.

Oshiro defeated Northern Arizona’s Hailey Rochin in a quick two sets 6-1, 6-1 for the right to face Lucia Kovarcikova from Utah tomorrow. Bryant-Swift had as easy a time as Oshiro defeating BYU’s Sydney Monson 6-0, 6-1. The senior from Bellevue, Wash., will now meet UNLV’s Santa Shumilna.

The fourth Bronco to win today was sophomore Teal Vosburgh who downed Air Force’s Chloe Farlini 6-0, 6-3. Vosburgh has New Mexico State’s Brittany Collens in tomorrow’s round of 64.

Megan LaLone and Sara Brown fell in today’s round of 128 to move into the back draw on Friday. LaLone lost to Utah State’s Kallie Sperry in three-sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while Brown was downed by Johanna Vang from Northern Arizona 6-0, 6-2.
 
There are no consolation/back draw matches on Thursday as the main draws continue in both singles and doubles. Tomorrow will see seniors Basil and Vo begin their singles competition with the round of 64 joining the four who won today.  Consolation rounds start on Friday in Las Vegas.
