Nosek and Palmer Lead Broncos

Boise State women's tennis opened the 2017 fall season Friday competing in two tournaments the UNLV Invitational and the Idaho State Invitational. In all six Broncos competed at the two venues experiencing mixed results.


UNLV INVITATIONAL RECAP 


LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Boise State’s Anja Dokic and Lilian Poling opened their seasons at the UNLV Invitational dropping a pair of hard fought singles matches Friday.

Dokic lost in a set two tiebreaker 6-4, 7-6 to Washington State’s Bara Michallova in the flight one quarterfinals. The sophomore will move into Saturday’s consolation round against Lena Pacholski of Long Beach State at noon (Mountain).

Lilian Poling battled back after dropping the opening set to win the second to force a decisive third. Unfortunately for Poling, she lost a heartbreaker on a third set tiebreaker to Long Beach State’s Natalia Munoz 6-1, 2-6, 7-6. The sophomore from West Point, N.Y., will move into flight one’s consolation round Saturday morning versus Hanneke Lodewijks of Northern Arizona at noon (Mountain).

The Boise State tandem opened the day taking Northern Arizona’s 57th-ranked pair of Hanneke Lodewijks and Chiara Tomasetti. The Broncos fell 8-3 to the Lumberjack duo. They will now play Long Beach State’s Lena Pacholski and Natalia Munoz at 11 a.m. (Mountain) in Saturday’s consolation draw.

IDAHO STATE INVITATIONAL RECAP


POCATELLO, Idaho - Boise State’s Wilhelmina Palmer and Wiktoria Nosek led the Broncos at the Idaho State Invitational on Friday picking up singles victories to move into Saturday’s quarterfinals in Pocatello.

Palmer, a freshman from Stockholm, Sweden, tallied a relatively easy win in her first collegiate singles match defeating Utah State’s Sabrina Demerath in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. With the win, Palmer moves into Saturday’s quarterfinals versus Idaho State’s Huibre Mare Botes.

Nosek also tallied a win on the opening day rallying from one set down to hand ISU’s Kristen Newell a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 defeat. The sophomore from Poland will now move into the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Vanessa Timm lost in her first collegiate match Friday falling to Weber State’s Catlin Herb 6-0, 6-2. The true freshman from Denmark will compete in Saturday’s consolation round against Montana’s Cam Kincaid.

Weber State’s Dominique Beauvais handed Boise State sophomore Jovana Kuljanin a two set loss 6-2, 6-1 in the black flight singles draw. Kuljanin now moves to Saturday’s consolation bracket where she will face either Weber State’s McKenna Lloyd or Utah State’s Maggie O’Meara.
