BOISE, Idaho - The No. 6-seeded Broncos defeated No. 11-seeded Colorado State in the first round of the Mountain West Women's Tennis Championships, 4-3, on Thursday evening at Appleton Tennis Center, giving the Broncos their first Mountain West Championships win in program history.

With the win, the Broncos improve to 14-7 on the season and will play San Jose State in the quarterfinals. Colorado State's season ends with a record of 11-2.

The Broncos avenged their regular-season doubles point loss to the Rams in Friday's match, winning at No. 2 singles with Palmer/Poling, 6-4 and then at No. 1 singles with Dokic/Nosek, 6-3, to put the Broncos up 1-0 heading into singles play.

Sophomore Dokic pushed the Bronco lead to 2-0, with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Colorado State's Priscilla Palermo at No. 1 singles. However, the Rams surged back with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles to make it a 2-2 match.

The Rams then took their first lead of the day, 3-2, as Emily Kolbow defeated Wiktoria Nosek at No. 4 singles in a tightly-contested match. The first set took a tiebreak, but Kolbow won 7-6 (9-7) and then she took the second set, 6-3.

The match was then in the hands of No. 5 and No. 6 singles, with the Broncos needing both courts to earn the victory. Senior Nancy Menjivar took care of business at No. 6 singles, defeating Emma Corwin, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 to tie the match back up at 3-3.

That left things up to freshman Vanessa Timm, and she delivered in a big way. She fell in the first set to Riley Reeves, 6-2, but came back to win the second set, 6-4, setting up a winner-take-all third set. She battled to take the third set 7-5, giving the Broncos the victory.

With the win, the Broncos will face the No. 3 seed, San Jose State at 6 p.m. MT on Friday at Appleton Tennis Center. All four quarterfinal matches have been moved to Appleton Tennis Center. The day will start with No. 4 San Diego State vs. No. 5 Wyoming at 9 a.m. Then No. 1 seed UNLV will face No. 9 seed New Mexico at noon, followed by No. 2 seed Fresno State vs. No. 10 Utah State at 3 p.m. MT and the Broncos vs. the Spartans will round things out at 6 p.m. MT.
