FRESNO, Calif. – The Boise State women’s tennis team dropped a grueling, seven-hour match to Wyoming, 4-3, in the MW Championship Quarterfinals. Anissa Bryant-Swift, Teal Vosburgh and Megan LaLone recorded victories in singles before Wyoming clinched the match in doubles.

Beginning with singles play, Boise State jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Bryant-Swift got the better of the Cowgirls’ Dorottya Jones 6-4, 6-0 on court two. The win gave her a 13-9 record in duals this spring, including a 7-4 record at the No. 2 position.

Wyoming evened the count at 1-1 when Veronica Popovici edged Sandy Vo 6-4, 7-6 (5) on court one. The loss broke a five-match winning streak for Vo, who ended the year at 19-9 overall.

The back-and-forth affair continued when Teal Vosburgh gutted out a three-set victory over Silvija Zhelyazkova, 7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-0. Vosburgh was 10-9 in duals this spring and 19-12 overall.

The Cowgirls drew even with the Broncos at 2-2 after Morgan Basil dropped her match at the No. 5 position with Alena Vasilyeva, 6-4, 7-5. Basil had won seven of her previous ten matches and now stands with an overall record of 18-12.

Boise State threw another body blow when Megan LaLone outlasted Christa Gechava on court four, 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-2 to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead. LaLone amassed a team-leading 22 victories this year, including an impressive 6-2 record against MW competition.

Once again, Wyoming battled back to tie the match at 3-3 when Sammie Watson dropped her match 0-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Watson put together an 8-4 record in duals this spring and had two perfect 1-0 records on courts two and five.

With the match tied at 3-3 and already five hours deep into the match, the two teams headed into doubles to decide the match. The No. 2 team of Bryant-Swift and Vosburgh carried over their success from singles into their doubles match and defeated Gecheva and Espinosa, 8-4. The team of Vosburgh and Bryant-Swift led the Broncos in MW wins this year with a total of five.

Wyoming won the next match on court one where Vo and LaLone were bested by Jonas and Popovici, 8-3. Vo and LaLone went 6-3 on the year playing exclusively at No. 1 doubles. The Cowgirls clinched the match, 4-3, when Watson and Basil lost 8-5 to Vasilyeva and Zhelyazkova on court three. Watson and Basil ended the year with an 8-4 record when the two played together.
